In the case that the shell becomes compromised, instead of leaking (as did the earlier implants), this internal implant may hold its shape despite loss of shell support, and prevent a leak from outside the shell (as did the earlier silicone gel breast implants). The result is a more stable implant that has been shown in head-to-head studies to have twice the durability as compared to the saline breast implant.
