Precision Where It Matters Most

What Is a Mini Tummy Tuck?

A mini tummy tuck, or a mini abdominoplasty, is a body contouring procedure designed to smooth and tighten the lower abdominal area (specifically the zone below the belly button). Unlike a full abdominoplasty, it doesn’t address the upper abdomen or involve extensive abdominal wall repair.

This plastic surgery procedure removes a small amount of loose skin and fatty tissue, tightens the lower abdominal muscles, and creates a toned midsection with minimal scarring. For many patients, it’s the perfect middle ground; more effective than liposuction alone but less invasive than a full tummy tuck.

It’s a great option for women recovering from pregnancy or weight fluctuations, or anyone dealing with diastasis recti or a stubborn lower belly pouch that diet and exercise won’t fix.

Is the Mini Tuck Your Match?

Mini Tummy Tuck Candidates

Good candidates and potential mini tummy tuck Denver patients are close to their body goals, but still frustrated by excess fat or loose skin around the lower abdomen. You don’t need major abdominal separation or a large amount of skin to benefit from the procedure.

If you’ve had a baby, lost weight, or simply have some laxity that won’t go away, this may be the right step forward. Your treatment plan will be built around your unique goals, anatomy, and lifestyle.

Dr. Buford will also ask about whether you’re done with future pregnancies, since carrying another child can undo the effects of the surgery.

What Issues Can a Mini Tummy Tuck Address?

This tummy tuck procedure is specifically designed to improve:

  • Mild to moderate skin laxity in the lower abdomen
  • A small pouch or bulge from stubborn fat
  • Subtle separation of abdominal musculature
  • Stretch marks below the belly button
  • Changes in shape after pregnancy or significant weight loss

Let’s Talk Tummy Goals

Your Personal Consultation

Every mini tummy tuck starts with a personal consultation with Dr. Buford. You’ll go over your medical history, talk through your aesthetic goals, and discuss what kind of result feels right for you.

We’ll take a close look at your abdominal area, assess your skin and fat distribution, and explore any additional procedures you may be considering, like breast augmentation, a Mommy Makeover, or liposuction.

Ahead of your surgery, you’ll be given simple instructions: stop certain medications, line up a responsible adult to drive you home, and keep your body strong and stable to support healing.

Most importantly, Dr. Buford and his expert team will perform a comprehensive physical examination to see if you are an ideal candidate for this procedure. The reality is that many patients who would like to have a mini tummy tuck end up being better candidates for a full tummy tuck for a variety of reasons. This criteria will be discussed with you in depth during your consultation to make sure that you are undergoing the correct procedure to help you achieve your body contouring goals and the most optimal result possible.

From First Mark to Final Suture

What to Expect from the Mini Tummy Tuck Procedure

This outpatient surgery typically takes around two hours depending on whether liposuction and Renuvion skin tightening is added. You’ll be placed under general anesthesia in one of our two accredited facilities just outside of Denver. Dr. Buford will make a small horizontal incision above the pubic area. Through this incision, he’ll remove excess skin, trim away fat, and (if needed) tighten a small portion of your abdominal wall.

If you’ve chosen to include liposuction and Renuvion skin tightening, that will be performed in the same session. The incision is then carefully closed, and you’ll be placed in a compression garment to support a smooth recovery.

There’s generally no need to relocate your belly button in a mini tuck. That stays put.

Healing Made Simple (and Smooth)

Results, Recovery, and Aftercare

You’ll go home the same day, with detailed recovery instructions and follow-up appointments scheduled.

Most patients feel ready to move around gently within a few days and return to desk work or light tasks in seven to ten days. You’ll likely wear your surgical garment for 4-6 weeks, avoid heavy lifting, and ease back into normal routines as directed.

Dr. Buford and his team provide comprehensive aftercare, including

  • Lymphatic massage to reduce swelling
  • MEND muscle recovery support for those affected by weight loss or protein depletion
  • Scar care and healing protocols
  • Regular check-ins to monitor progress

Swelling and bruising are normal and will subside gradually. You’ll notice improvement early, but your final result will be visible around 6 to 12 weeks.

When paired with a healthy lifestyle and stable weight, results are long-lasting. Many patients report improved self-confidence, better posture, and a smoother abdomen in fitted clothes.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

Breast implants are not lifetime devices. The longer patients have them, the greater the chance they will develop complications, which may require more surgery. Breast implants have been associated with a cancer of the immune system called breast implant–associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). Some patients have died from BIA-ALCL. Patients have also reported a variety of systemic symptoms such as joint pain, muscle aches, confusion, chronic fatigue, autoimmune diseases, and others.

Natrelle® Breast Implants are for breast augmentation and revision surgery in women at least 22 years old for silicone-filled implants and women at least 18 years old for saline-filled implants.

You should not get breast implants if you currently have an active infection, untreated breast cancer or precancer, or are pregnant or nursing. Tell your doctor about any conditions you have, any medications you are taking, and any planned cancer treatments. Breast implantation is likely not a one-time surgery.

Having implants removed and not replaced may lead to permanent cosmetic changes of the breasts. Breast implants may affect breastfeeding. Gel implants may rupture without symptoms, so periodic imaging after surgery is recommended.

Key complications are reoperation, implant removal, implant rupture, implant deflation with saline-filled implants, and severe capsular contracture.

Talk to your doctor for more information.

The use of Natrelle® Breast Implants is restricted to licensed physicians who provide information to patients about the risks and benefits of breast implant surgery.
