Long Island Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Frederick Lukash has worked with a number of children who are the result of bullying. These patients are often seen with their parents to discuss surgeries such as ear pinnings and nose jobs in order to correct what they see as being attractive to their bullies. In an interesting move that I find quite creative, Dr. Lukash has asked his young patients to draw pictures of how they see themselves. What they have drawn you will find very insightful and very sad.
As a Plastic Surgeon, I have also seen a number of young patients seeking these same types of procedures (e.g.: ear reshaping, rhinoplasty, scar revision) as a result of bullying. I had the opportunity to speak briefly about my experience yesterday with my friend Erica Cobb during the Wolf-FM Morning Show. My experience with these patients has been very positive in that many of them are literally transformed following their surgery. But the fact remains that bullying is still a problem and no amount of Plastic Surgery will ever stop it. Until then, we can only do our best to help these kids.
