Cellulite. Even just the mention of the word can make many women shake in their boots. At BEAUTY by BUFORD, we encounter many patients who want to know how to get rid of cellulite, usually in the form of the question, “Can liposuction address cellulite?” Keep reading to get the answer to this question and more!
What Is Cellulite?
This is one of the few medical/anatomy questions you can search on the internet and not be met with, “Cancer!”, “Death!” and “Call your doctor immediately!” So, if you are feeling a little nervous about the answer, you can relax.
Cellulite most commonly presents as bumpy, lumpy skin on the thighs, butt, breasts, lower abdomen, and hips. And despite the myriad of comments on the internet about it being related to toxins, obesity, etc., it does not discriminate and can appear on the healthiest, skinniest woman. There’s no scary, underlying cause, and no testing is necessary to diagnose. It’s just an aesthetic concern that 80% – 90% of post-puberty women deal with. (Men can get cellulite too, but it’s much less common. Only about 10% or less of men struggle with cellulite.)
The exact cause of cellulite is still a little bit murky, making treating it kind of a challenge. What we do know, however, is that it is caused by septal bands pulling the skin down when fat cells push the skin up. The end result is localized puckering of the skin. Theories about why this happens include body type and genetics. Despite the vagueness surrounding the “condition,” it can still be effectively treated to give you the body and confidence you deserve.
Does Liposuction Get Rid Of Cellulite?
Technically, liposuction is not a treatment aimed at getting rid of or reducing cellulite. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that literally sucks out pockets of fat that are resistant to healthy diet and exercise. While some women might see a reduction in the appearance of their cellulite after liposuction, it’s not a commonly experienced benefit of this cosmetic surgery. In fact, you’re more likely to see your cellulite worsen after liposuction. So, what can you do to reduce cellulite?

Avéli
When you see magazine spreads of models or endless posts by Instagram influencers without cellulite, it’s probably been edited out, or they routinely invest in cellulite treatments, like the Avéli Ceullite Treatment offered at BEAUTY by BUFORD.
Aveli is an FDA-cleared cellulite treatment that actually works. Unlike liposuction, Avéli is a non-surgical, minimally invasive option exclusively designed to reduce the appearance of cellulite in the thighs or buttocks.
What it’s like:
- Dr. Buford will inject local anesthetic into the treatment area.
- He will then create very, very small incisions (roughly 3mm in size) for the Avéli device to slip through.
- Dr. Buford will then skillfully guide the Avéli device beneath the skin in the targeted areas to release the cellulite-causing fibrous bands.
- Following the procedure, there is little to no downtime, and most patients return to their daily activities within 24-48 hours. Dr. Buford and his team often combine treatments such as the CO2 Lift Mask to the treated areas to reduce bruising even more and allow patients to show off their new look even sooner!
The entire treatment process usually takes one hour, and a single session is generally all that is required. Although results should be permanent, like all procedures performed, revisions may be necessary to address residual banding, although this is rare and uncommonly seen.
Can Avéli Be Combined With Liposuction?
In many cases, combining procedures can save you time and money and get you even better, more detailed results faster. That’s why we’re so happy to tell you that, yes, Avéli can be combined with other procedures, including but not limited to VASER liposuction and Renuvion skin tightening, for a more comprehensive body contouring transformation. This combination approach leverages the strengths of both treatments, delivering superior results that address fat, cellulite, and skin laxity for a more refined, polished look in the thighs or buttocks.
